Shelby Kaczmarek is a Ph.D. candidate in Dr. Seung-Hwan Lee’s laboratory at the University of Ottawa. She started her interest in cancer research during her B.Sc. of Biopharmaceutical Science at the University of Ottawa where she worked to develop treatments for Triple-Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC). Shelby started her M.Sc. in Dr. Seung-Hwan Lee’s laboratory in 2019 and fast-tracked to her Ph.D. shortly after. Since starting her project to express chimeric antigen receptors (CARs) in natural killer (NK) cells, she has played a key role in optimizing the CAR-NK manufacturing process and developing in vivo xenograft multiple myeloma (MM) models. She hopes that her research helps to progress critical therapies to improve aggressive MM extramedullary disease and to participate in clinical cell-directed therapy manufacturing in the future.
