Dr. Elena Alejo Alonso studied Medicine at the University of Salamanca (2013-2019) and completed her residency in Hematology and Hemotherapy at the University Hospital of Salamanca (2020-2024), obtaining the award for ‘Best Resident Professional Humanisation 2020-2024’.
During her training period she focused her research on the field of monoclonal gammopathies, defending her doctoral thesis ‘Prognostic factors and clinical management strategies for monoclonal gammopathy of uncertain significance and immunoglobulin light chain amyloidosis’ on July 2024, under the supervision of Dr Maria-Victoria Mateos, Dr Verónica González-Calle and Dr Noemi Puig, and is also a member of the CANC-03 group. Multiple myeloma and new drugs of the Institute of Biomedical Research of Salamanca (IBSAL), where she participates in projects that continue the line of research started with her doctoral thesis. Thanks to the work of the research group, she has received regional, national and international awards, such as the ‘Prize for the best oral communication (SCLHH 2024)’, the ‘First, second and third prize of CAMMBIO (5th, 6th and 7th edition)’ and the ‘Young Investigator Travel Award (International Society of Amyloidosis 2024)’.
She is currently working in the Flow Cytometry Unit of the University Hospital of Salamanca.
