Dr. Maria Kotsopoulou, MD is the Director of the Hematology Clinic and Bone Marrow Transplantation Unit at the General Anticancer Hospital of Piraeus “Metaxa” in Greece. She has been a member of the Metaxa Hematology Department since 2006 and brings decades of clinical experience in hematology, with a focus on multiple myeloma and stem cell transplantation.
Dr. Kotsopoulou earned her medical degree from the University “La Sapienza” in Rome and completed her specialties in Internal Medicine and Hematology in Athens. Her clinical expertise spans the management of complex hematologic conditions, including multiple myeloma, plasma cell leukemia, lymphoma and myelodysplastic syndromes.
She has served as principal investigator in numerous national and multinational clinical trials and non-interventional studies. Her research contributions are reflected in a large body of peer-reviewed publications and international conference presentations. She is also actively involved in collaborative efforts with the Greek Myeloma Study Group and the Hellenic MDS Study Group.
As President of the Special Infections Committee at Metaxa Hospital, Dr. Kotsopoulou also plays a key role in antimicrobial stewardship and infection control in immunocompromised patients.
Fluent in Greek, English, and Italian, Dr. Kotsopoulou is widely respected for her commitment to evidence-based care and patient-centered innovation in the field of hematology.
