Dr David Garrido completed his specialty training in hematology at the Hospital de Clínicas “Dr. Manuel Quintela” in Montevideo, Uruguay. He earned his medical degree from the Universidad Central del Ecuador, where an early fascination with the molecular basis of immunology and hematology shaped his career ambitions. After graduation he joined the paediatric onco‑hematology service at Baca Ortiz Children’s Hospital in Quito, an experience that confirmed his commitment to the field.
Mentored by Prof. Eloísa Riva, Dr Garrido has focused his research on monoclonal gammopathies. Through collaborations with Prof. Riva and the Grupo de Estudio Latinoamericano de Mieloma Múltiple (GELAMM), he has contributed to several multicentre investigations, earning the International Myeloma Society’s Young Investigator Award for Exemplary Abstracts in 2021 and 2024, as well as Career Development Awards in 2022 and 2023.
He currently serves as a staff hematologist at the Hospital de Especialidades Eugenio Espejo in Quito, Ecuador, where he integrates clinical care with ongoing research into plasma‑cell disorders.
