Dorothee Winterberg, PhD is a postdoctoral researcher in the Division of Antibody-Based Immunotherapy at the University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein in Kiel, Germany. Her research focuses on the development and optimization of novel antibodies for the therapy of hematological neoplasms.
During her doctoral studies at the Department of Pediatrics, Dr. Winterberg worked on novel CD19-directed TRAIL-fusion proteins for the treatment of B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL). Here, she has also worked on the generation of patient-derived xenograft (PDX) mouse models in NOD scid gamma (NSG) mice. In these mice, she investigated the organ-specific tropism of ALL cells, with a particular focus on the clinically critical central nervous system (CNS) involvement.
Her postdoctoral research centers on improving the recruitment and activation of various immune cell populations, such as natural killer (NK) cells and T cells through the use of bi- and multi-specific antibodies. In addition, she utilizes various mouse models to demonstrate and improve the in vivo efficacy of novel antibody constructs.
The overall aim of her work is to translating scientific advancements into effective clinical treatments.
