Dr Edward Laane holds the position of Assistant Professor in Tartu University, Hematology-Oncology Clinic and is the Board Member of the Kuressaare Hospital. Dr Laane has worked between 2006-2017 in North Estonia Medical Center where he served as the Head of Hematology Department in 2008-2012. Throughout his professional career, Dr Laane has focused on the improvement of hematology care and research in Estonia with main interest to study plasma cell dyscrasias. He also started clinical research in cooperation with Nordic Myeloma Study Group. In 2015 Dr Laane had research scholar position at Dr Nikhil Munshi's lab in the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Boston, with the grant award from the Baltic-American Freedom Foundation/BAFF. Dr Laane graduated in Medicine at Tartu University where he also completed his training in haematology. Dr Laane holds a PhD from the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm on oncology and experimental oncology. He also holds a PhD from Tartu University on flow cytometry studies in haematology. Dr Laane served as the President of the Estonian Haematology Society in 2010-2013. Dr Laane was the leader of Tallinn-Helsinki Twinning Program 2014-2017 of the World Federation of Haemophilia. Dr Laane is a member of numerous scientific organizations. Since 2020 Dr Laane serves as Estonia alternate member for Estonia of the Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use/CHMP at European Medicines Agency/EMA. Since 2019, Dr Laane is a Chair of the European Hematology Association/EHA Specialized Working Group/SWG Quality of Life and Symptoms.
