Dr. Sundar Jagannath is a globally recognized expert in multiple myeloma and bone marrow transplantation. He currently serves as Professor of Medicine in Hematology and Medical Oncology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and is the Network Director for the Multiple Myeloma Program. From 2010 to 2024, he led the program as Director, building it into one of the largest and most respected myeloma centers in the United States.
Under his leadership, Mount Sinai’s Multiple Myeloma Program became the largest in New York City and a national leader in patient care and translational research for this rare bone marrow cancer. His team treats over 400 new patients annually, offering innovative, precision medicine therapies that improve outcomes and quality of life.
Dr. Jagannath has authored over 180 peer-reviewed articles in top journals including The New England Journal of Medicine, Blood, Journal of Clinical Oncology, and Cancer. He has also presented more than 150 abstracts, written nearly 30 book chapters, and serves as Editor-in-Chief of Clinical Lymphoma, Myeloma & Leukemia. He is a board member of the Society of Hematologic Oncology.
His contributions have earned him numerous prestigious awards, including the 2018 Fellow of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (FASCO), the 2003 Humanitarian Award from the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, the 2017 Innovator Award from the MMRC, the 2022 Michaeli Lifetime Achievement Award, and the 2023 Waldenström Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Myeloma Society.
Dr. Jagannath earned his medical degree from Maharaja Sayajirao University Medical Center in Baroda, India, and completed a fellowship in immunovirology at McMaster University Medical Center in Hamilton, Ontario. He is board-certified in internal medicine and medical oncology.
