Dr. Pankaj Malhotra, MD, FRCP, is a Professor and Head of the Department of Clinical Hematology and Medical Oncology at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, India, a premier tertiary care medical institute. Its affiliated Nehru Hospital has over 2,200 beds. The department manages approximately 60,000 adult patients visits with hematological disorders and malignancies annually. It also offers separate three-year fellowship programs in DM Clinical Hematology and DM Medical Oncology.
Dr. Malhotra earned his MD in 1996 and was awarded the Indian Council of Medical Research Fellowship to the Department of Hematology at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, in 2005. He holds Fellowships from the Royal College of Physicians (London and Edinburgh).
He played a key role as a member of the organizing committee for the 2017 International Myeloma Workshop in New Delhi and is the founding president of the Indian Myeloma Academic Group (IMAGe) (www.imagesociety.co.in). Since 2016, IMAGe has been actively organizing annual myeloma conferences in India.
Dr. Malhotra contributes extensively to international and national clinical guidelines. He is a member of the ASTCT guidelines panel on hematopoietic cell transplantation and cellular therapy in multiple myeloma, as well as the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and National Cancer Grid guidelines committees on multiple myeloma and hematopoietic neoplasms. He is also a co-author of the Asian Myeloma Network guidelines for managing multiple myeloma in resource-limited settings.
His academic contributions include 622 publications in peer-reviewed journals, 24 book chapters, and the supervision of 143 MD, DM, and Ph.D. theses. He serves as the principal investigator for numerous clinical trials and has led 38 research projects, both completed and ongoing.
Beyond academia, Dr. Malhotra is actively involved in patient advocacy and regularly provides expert support to NGOs such as "Myeloma Friends" and "Amyloidosis Support Group India."
