Head of Department of the Gregorio Marañón General University Hospital in Madrid sin June 2025. Previous work in the University of Salamanca since 1990, where he was residente, attending phyiscian and head of the Molecular Laboratory Unit. Researcher at the Cancer Research Center. Associated professor at the University of Salamanca since 2007, and full professor since 2023.
He pursued medical studies in the University of Salamanca between 1982 and 1988, hematology residency between 1990 and 1994. His PhD work was of multiple myeloma biology, awarded with the Special Mention 1993/94. Postdoctoral studies in the Immunology Department of the Erasmus University of Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
Dr. García-Sanz is principal investigator and co-investigator in Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, Multiple Myeloma, and, especially, Waldenström’s macroglobulinemia. He also researches in blood biology and standardization in the hematology laboratory.
Ramón García-Sanz has authored or co-authored 406 original research articles indexed in PubMed, as well as publications in Spanish, with more than 30,000 citations and an H index of 91 in google.scholar (76 in WOS). He actively participates in the Spanish groups GEM/PETHEMA and GELTAMO focusing on myeloma biology, minimal residual disease detection, and global studies in Hodgkin’s lymphoma and Waldenström’s macroglobulinemia. He is the current coordinator of the hematological tumors program of the Spanish CIBERONC network. He also participated in the board of Spanish Society of Hematology, where he was the president between 2019 and 2022.
