PhD Candidate
Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, Canada
Dory Abelman is a final-year PhD candidate in Medical Biophysics at the University of Toronto and a trainee at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. His research centers on liquid-biopsy approaches for multiple myeloma: he develops targeted-panel and whole-genome cfDNA assays that track clonal evolution, quantify minimal residual disease, and provide early insight into treatment response. By integrating plasma and bone marrow cfDNA with matched tumour sequencing, Dory aims to refine risk stratification and provide clinicians with practical tools for longitudinal disease monitoring.
Beyond the bench, Dory leads several multi-site genomics projects with collaborators at the Mayo Clinic and other international centers, has presented at the International Myeloma Society, AACR and ASH meetings, and mentors junior scientists through workshops in bioinformatics and scientific communication. Recent leadership training through the Princess Margaret BOLD program has sharpened his project management and knowledge translation skills, reinforcing his commitment to advancing precision care for myeloma patients and to fostering the next generation of myeloma researchers.
